Albert L.
Kulow
Sep 17, 1937 — Dec 30, 2024
Del Rey
Albert Ludwig Kulow was born on September 17, 1937 to Albert Wilhem Martin Kulow and Freida Franziska Jenss Kulow in Hamburg, Germany.
Albert's father encouraged his son to embark on a journey to America to care for his ailing grandmother that was old in age and needed someone to look after her. Therefore, in 1958 Albert began his journey and migrated to America where he settled with his grandmother in Los Angeles, California. Shortly after he arrived, he enrolled into English as a second language class. There he would meet his beautiful wife Angela. They married that same year and began to build their beautiful family of 8 children, Elsa, Mike, Caroline, Albert Jr., Karl, Gina, Francisco and Maria in Los Angeles, CA.
In 1972 they relocated to Sanger, Ca and in 1973 they established their new home and began to nurture the growth of their family. Today Albert's family has grown and continues to grow. He has 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys along with their husbands and wives, 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren that will be born this year 2025. His number of family has almost reached 100 and his legacy continues to grow.
An immigrant from Hamburg Germany came with a short-term plan to care for his grandmother. Yet, God had different plans for him. When he met his wife Angela and started their family, he knew that he would not return to his homeland and became an American. A decision he did not second-guess. As life went on his wife introduced him to Christianity and they both dedicated their life to the Lord teaching their children to serve the Lord with all their hearts and became members of the C.L.A.D.I.C. churches. They both gave back to their church and community. Albert cooked for church conventions, made tamales for fundraisers, helped make menudo for Easter Sunrise Service, and donated money into the church he attended. He would lead in preparing for church activities, Christmas (drama) plays, and decor. He served as the church maintenance and repairman as he unselfishly served and maintained the needs of other fellow church members. Albert was always known for his loving, giving and compassionate spirit. He loved to help others in need including his mother and father-in-law whom he loved and cared for. He never complained about helping and caring for them in his home until their death. He always made himself available to his family, extended families, friends, and his neighbors. When someone needed money or a place to stay, he was always eager to help them.
Albert spent his life being a hard worker and a reliable employee. He did everything he could to take care of his family, from catering wedding parties, to field worker, construction worker, selling bags of oranges on the side of the road in order to provide for his family. In his final years of his career he made a living as a Senior Mechanic at Fresno State University for over 20 years. He was persistent in supporting his family and generously aided them in all aspects of life. He was willing to do anything and give everything, so that his wife and children got what they needed.
Albert's long life passion was sailing on his sailboat. He was a sailor at heart, a true adventurer who cherished the call of the ocean and the embrace of the wind. He loved to feel the brine on his face and the breeze the sea would bring as he would say sailing was a reminder of the freedom that only the sea could bring. Albert, a man of God, often mentioned that sailing mirrored life. The crashing waves resembled life's challenges as we navigated to find balance that only the keel in a sailboat would bring. The storms that came unannounced made us rely on steering with intention as the rudder gave direction. The sound of the boom swinging gracefully, the hull cutting through the water, and the sails billowing with purpose were like a symphonies of angels playing to his heart. Whether on land or sea, Albert would find adventure in it as he would prepare for the next wave to ride and the next horizon to chase for as long as he had God to help him through it he knew he would be ok.
When we remember our Dad Albert, let us carry forth his spirit of adventure and his love for God. Let our faith in God always be near and allow the boundless love he had for his family always honor his legacy. Let let us remember all he taught us. That life is a voyage filled with both calm waters and turbulent storms. Remembering we can only navigate life's journey with faith and courage. Let his teachings and his passion of his giving spirit echo forever in our hearts reminding us to find joy in the simple pleasures of life. Just as he did when his sail caught the wind or when the sun dipped beneath the horizon as he sailed into flight. Albert Kulow, the man who loved sailing, also loved God. He was a father who instilled in his children the courage to dream, to hope, and to love the Lord with all their hearts. His greatest advice to all of us is to encourage one another to seek Gods wisdom so he can help us to navigate the tides of life. As he neared his time of death to sail on into another life, his love for God and then the sea continuously resonated within him. As Albert got older and as his health began to decline, he began to realize he could no longer grasp the tiller or feel the ropes in his hands. No matter what he could no longer do, Albert would often say he still could dream and hope. The day came when he closed his eyes and would no longer breathe. He heard the foghorn hum and God's voice navigating him into the mystic sea. We will never forget the lessons he imparted reminding us that love and faith in God are the true compass of our lives.
