Obituary

Ascencion Betancourt Vela (Connie/Chata) passed away peacefully with family at home on Saturday, May 28th at the age of 91. Connie was born on August 10, 1930 in Weslaco, Texas. Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Noe Betancourt of Sanger, CA., two siblings: Juanita Vela Mendez and Joe Vela Jr., both from Weslaco Texas and grandson, Alexis Omar Luevano from Austin, Texas. Connie had three daughters: Belinda Luevano from El Paso, Texas, Olga Garcia from Reedley, CA. and Ina Portillo from Sanger, CA. She had seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ascencion worked approximately forty years at Barr's Packing in Sanger and Garry's Packing in Del Rey, CA. Connie resided with her daughter Olga and son-in-law, Mark, in Reedley for the past ten years. Her love for family and friends was unmeasurable. Up until the very end of her life, she enjoyed gardening, puzzles, word-related game books, and never was without a hand-crafted project of crocheting, embroidering and knitting. Connie did not know the words " I can't" and would be open to almost any project placed in front of her. She was the "go to gal" for the family. Above all, Connie was very faithful to God and loved the Lord and Blessed Mother with all her heart, and when given the opportunity, would attend any and all church related events at St. Anthony of Padua in Reedley. Connie had an infectious personality and a bubbly spirit which lit up a room. Connie left an impression on all that met her and she will be dearly missed.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at 6 p.m. at the Wallins Sanger Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of Connie's life. of personal reflection from family and friends.
