Obituary

Dan Wallace Forbes passed away on January 15, 2025 at his home near Sanger, CA on his lower foothill ranch. Dan was born on Oct. 08, 1933 to Ted and Elizabeth Forbes in Fresno, Ca. Dan attended Clovis High School in Clovis, CA, and later attended Fresno State. During that time, he met his beloved wife Joye. Dan and Joye met in Sanger, Ca and dated for 5 years before they were married on May 12, 1956. On March 8, 1956 he was drafted into the Army, where he served his country in Germany until June 6, 1958. After returning to the states, he joined his father Ted and continued to carry on his ranching life and legacy for the remainder of his life. His father Ted was one of the founding members of the Clovis Rodeo Association, past President and Grand Marshall, which Dan followed in his footsteps being named Clovis Rodeo President, and Grand Marshall. After returning from his service duty, Dan and Joye started a family with two daughters and continued in the cattle ranching business, growing their business to the largest permitee holder in the Sierra Nevada's outside of Sanger in the foothills and in the Sierra Nevada high country.

Dan was an accomplished horseman breaking all of his colts, mending fences, looking after his herd, and never swayed from the hard work that was needed to run his cow/calf operation.

After being injured in his older years, Dan took up rawhide braiding, an old lost art that he took up from his favorite Uncle Dan. Through the years he made numerous sets of rawhide reins, quirts, and bosals, only donating them or giving them to his closet friends, and to his favorite organizations.

Dan is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his beloved wife Joye. He has two surviving daughters Kim (Curtis), Shandie, his beloved sister Joan, two grandchildren Cole, and Cortney (Shad), and 5 great grandchildren Kayden, Paige, Stevie, Ty and Tripp.
