Born in Aurora , Missouri, to Jessie Mae and William Lee Howerton, David Howerton was the oldest of two children .

He graduated from Sanger High School in 1960 and worked at the Sanger Recreation Department. It was at Sanger Rec that he met his future wife—Ofelia (Fuentes)—while umpiring a softball gam e that she played shortstop.

The couple got married in 1965 with David work ing at General Cable in Sanger. He later graduated from Fresno State in 19 70 , earning his B.A. degree in physical education.

The Howertons had three children together —Darryl, Darren and Sarah—and then moved to Fresno in 1977 when David began a new job at ValBlock .

As his children moved through high school and college , David began working at the U .S. Post al Service in 1983 and worked there through retirement in 200 7 .

Throughout his life, David had a passion for sports, movies, oldies music and politics. But nothing surpassed David's love for Jesus Christ and his devotion to his family.

David Howerton was a man of integrity who provided a reliable role model for so many relatives and friends to follow.

His wife will miss her dance partne r, h is three children will miss their superhero and his six grandchildren — Chrystah and Hannah Howerton; Broshawn , Ella, Trey and Josie Jackson— forevermore will miss their G randpa and Papa.

O ne thing we all know now — David Howerton is in a heavenly place , a nd we thank him t his day for showing us the way.
