Donald L. Hogner peacefully went home to be with his Lord on February 21, 2024. Don was born July 28, 1937, in Claremore Indian Hospital in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Zelma Iris Richardson and Ned Edward Hogner. He moved with his parents to Sanger in 1952 and graduated from Sanger High School in 1955. On May 29, 1959, Don married Ramona L. Gee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Zelma Hogner, and his sisters, LaVene Cheney and LaVurle Hawkins.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he completed his bachelor's degree in 1964 at Fresno State with a major in Philosophy. Don was Chief Probation Officer in Alameda County and president of the California Chief Probation Officer's Association when he retired in 1992. During his career, he also served as Chief Probation Officer in Fresno County from 1983 to 1988. In 1988, he was recognized by the California Assembly for Outstanding Public Service. In 1992, the National Institute of Corrections recognized Mr. Hogner's dedicated and professional leadership in the field of community corrections, and also, in 1992, Mr. Hogner was named California's Chief Probation Officer of the Year. In 1993, the year after Mr. Hogner retired, he was invited to a National Conference held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was named the National Association of Probation Executives 'Probation Executive of the Year.'

Don and Ramona enjoyed their retirement for over 40 years, driving the back roads of this country, looking for wonderfully unbusy places until health setbacks slowed them down. Those left to celebrate a life well lived include his wife of 64 years, Ramona Hogner; two adult children, Sonja Hogner Gil, her husband, Javier Gil Cancino, and their two sons, Writer and Kai; Tatia Hogner Muir and her fiancé Richard Adams.
