Esmeralda Reyes, known fondly as Amy, was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Amy was born on September 15, 1941, in Weslaco, Texas, to the late Felipa and Santos Reyes and passed away on July 11, 2023 at the age of 81. Amy was a beacon of strength, compassion, and faith. Her unwavering dedication to her beliefs and her profound love for others defined her character and left an enduring legacy.
Esmeralda was a pillar of strength and love within her family. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Marie Ybarra and the cherished memory of her late son, Roger Garcia. She loved both of her children with all of her heart. Amy's tireless dedication and selflessness were evident in her sacrifices for the well-being and happiness of her children. She loved her children unconditionally, and she supported them through every triumph and challenge.
She is also survived by her sisters Oralia Cantu, Jessie Alejandro, Cecilia Perez, Juanita Garcia, Amelia Vasquez, Criselda Reyes and the memory of her late sister Mary Verdin. She is also survived by her brothers Eufracio Reyes, Rogelio Reyes, and the memory of her late brothers, Armando Reyes, George Reyes, and Antonio Reyes. Esmeralda loved all of her siblings and they shared countless precious moments together.
Amy also found immeasurable pride and joy in her role as a grandmother. Her love for her grandchildren, Jose Nicolas Ybarra, Patricia Esmeralda Ybarra, and Isaac Paul Ybarra was beyond words, though she always made sure to let them know. She cherished every moment spent with them, nurturing their dreams and providing unwavering support. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in them.
A woman of deep faith, Amy found solace and community at the Parlier Church of God, where she formed lasting bonds with fellow worshippers. Her commitment to her church was evident in her unwavering support and service, embodying the values of faith, grace, and love in her daily life.
Throughout her life, Amy demonstrated a remarkable love for children, finding delight in their presence and cherishing the innocence and wonder they brought to the world. Amy served a number of years as a teacher's aide for the Parlier Unified School District, a role she embraced with dedication and enthusiasm. Her commitment to shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students within the community.
Amy's intelligence and sharp mind remained vibrant throughout her life and she remained a constant source of knowledge and wisdom. Beyond her work in education, Amy was a fervent activist for migrant workers' rights. She recognized the challenges faced by marginalized communities and devoted her efforts to championing their cause.
Amy also had a special affinity for animals, particularly her beloved dogs, who held a special place in her heart. She found joy and comfort in their companionship, exemplifying her nurturing and compassionate nature.
Amy's kindness extended to everyone she encountered, especially those in need. Amy's generosity knew no bounds, as she willingly offered her possessions and assistance to those less fortunate. Her genuine care and compassion endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Esmeralda "Amy" Reyes touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication. She will be remembered for her selflessness, warmth, and unwavering support. While Amy's departure leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will live on through the countless lives she influenced. Amy will continue to inspire and guide those whose lives she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace in the Kingdom of Heaven and may her light continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A celebration of Amy's life will be held on Friday, July 28th at Wallin's Parlier Funeral Home, where family, friends, and community members will gather to pay their respects. Visitation will begin at 8:30am and services will begin at 10:00am. The family kindly requests any gifts or flowers to be delivered to Wallin's Parlier Funeral Home.
