Eulogia Cerda
Chapa
Apr 23, 1932 — May 28, 2022
Fresno
Eulogia Cerda Chapa passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Eulogia was born to Mamiliano and Estela Cerda on April 23, 1932 in Donna, TX. Before Eulogia reached the age of 2, her mother passed away. The loss of her mother at such a young age would profoundly impact and shape Eulogia for the rest of her life. In appreciation of being raised by her paternal great-aunt, Eulalia Ramirez, Eulogia strove to be the best child she could be: dedicated, honest, hardworking and always honoring her family. She grew into a caring, loving and friendly young woman who always had a kind word and helping hand for friends and strangers alike.
Eulogia married Santiago Chapa, also of Donna, TX, in 1955, with whom she had nine children. The love she gave to her children and husband was unconditional and unwavering. Eulogia expressed her love for her family through words as well as actions. She was always a supportive nurturer and was the bedrock of the family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Eulogia was preceded in death by her husband Santiago and her eldest son Julian, and is survived by Ed Chapa, Rose Chapa, Belinda Perez and her husband Homer, Mercedes Chapa, MD, Adrian Chapa, Tim Chapa and his wife Laura, Col. Art Chapa, MD and his wife Marisela, and Santiago "Jim" Chapa Jr. and his wife Elena; and her twelve grandchildren.
A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church Hall on Wednesday, June 8th at 10:00 AM in Sanger, CA, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will immediately follow the mass at the Sanger Cemetery. The Chapa Family would like to thank friends and extended family for sharing their love in Eulogia's life. The family would also like to thank Dr. Norma Solis and Leonor Aragon for their devoted and loving care for Eulogia during her infirmity, as well as nurses Myra and Roxanne from Bristol Hospice.
Flowers can be sent to Wallin's Funeral Home in Sanger, CA. If a donation is desired in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer & Memory Center UCSF Fresno in memoriam of Eulogia Cerda Chapa.
