Obituary

Gregory Vincent Zamora was born on October 14, 1957, in Fowler to his parents, Frank and Connie Zamora. Gregory was the youngest of seven children. His surviving siblings are : Linda Buxman from Reedley, Frank C. Zamora from Clovis, Loretta Kuechle from Scotts Valley, Carolyn Zamora from Fresno, Barbara McColm from Fowler, and Marlene McColm, also from Fowler. Gregory was briefly married to Cindy Franklin from Fresno.

Gregory was born in Fowler and resided there until 1967, when his family moved to Fresno...Greg attended Lone Star Elementary School and he graduated from Sanger High School in 1975, the year the Viet Nam War ended. After high school graduation Greg briefly attended Fresno City College and then Reedley College where he was enrolled in the Aerospace Program...Gregory graduated from Reedley College with an AA degree.

Greg did not actually serve in the military but he was employed by the Department of Defense, at NASA, as an Aerospace Technician at Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California...While employed by NASA, Greg had the honor of meeting many astronauts and dignitaries who were involved in the U.S. Space Program...Greg also enjoyed flying planes and he completed Ground School and many hours of flight training to obtain his pilot's license... While taking flying lessons in Visalia, one of Greg's flight instructors was Captain Jason Dahl, who would later become the pilot and captain of Flight 93 which was hijacked by terrorists on September 11th, and later crashed in Pennsylvania that same day.

After returning to Fresno, Greg resided with his parents to help care for them in their elderly years. Gregory was also employed by Chandler Field Airport for several years, working in the main office and monitoring and servicing private planes...Greg subsequently worked for his father for many years as a diesel maintenance mechanic, assisting in his father's trucking business in any way possible, and helping his parents at home where they lived. Gregory had a heart of gold, and he was a committed son who was adored and appreciated by his parents and family.

Gregory had many hobbies and interests besides aeronautics...He loved the outdoors and was a member of the Sierra Club for many years. He also collected firearms and was a member of the National Rifle Association... Greg enjoyed camping, rock climbing, hiking in the Sierras, practicing at the gun range, shopping for collectibles, and he especially enjoyed motorcycling with his friends and his father whenever possible. Greg and his father, along with some close friends, took a most memorable motorcycle trip to Baja one year where they were caught in a hurricane...Greg and Dad talked about this trip often as it was a very scary and harrowing experience for all of them...Greg was also an avid reader who owned hundreds of books...He especially enjoyed reading and studying medical and science books, and he was a wealth of medical knowledge...Greg won an award in high school for being the fastest speed reader in his class, and his love for reading continued throughout his life. Greg also loved and enjoyed music. He played the trumpet in jazz band in high school, and he owned hundreds of albums and CD's he collected over the years...Greg also enjoyed operating his ham radio and operating other audio equipment, which included enough equipment to open up a music studio we might add...

Gregory was a fascinating individual with a brilliant mind and a fun personality. If he liked you, he liked you...but if he didn't like you, you would absolutely know it...He was a kindhearted, genuine person who lived life to the fullest...

While in his 40's Gregory accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and this commitment to Christ resulted in great changes in Greg's life...Greg subsequently began a journey of studying the Bible, discussing Christianity, praying, listening to Christian radio, and basically learning about his faith and his Lord Jesus Christ...Greg became "a new creation in Christ" and he was such a blessing to others who knew him and were close to him at the time...Greg loved to pray and at times we could hear Gregory praying out loud in his room...Greg had a heart of gold and was kindhearted and good to others...

Greg also enjoyed and cared for animals, especially his own pets...After Gregory's parents passed away, Greg moved into his own home in Fresno and he had quite a menagerie of pets he cared for, along the line of St. Francis of Assisi we would say.

Greg loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was very happy and peaceful during the last months and days of his life here on Earth. As a Christian, of the Catholic persuasion, Gregory ran a very good race...We take great comfort in knowing he is now in Heaven with our beloved parents, family and his Lord Jesus Christ.

Well done, our beloved Gregory, thou good and faithful Servant of Christ. We will miss you greatly, and we look forward to that special day when we will see you again in a better place, in Heaven, at the Lord's appointed time....Amen, Gregory....Thank you for being such a good son and loving brother to those who loved you greatly...You will be greatly missed and loved until we see you again, dear brother Gregory...

Amen and much love, dearly beloved brother Gregory, until we see you again, in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior...Amen and Amen...
