Apr 30, 1947 — Aug 30, 2022
Fresno
Guadalupe "Lu" Dwyer, Owner of J&L Irrigation Company, Inc. passed away at home on August 30, 2022, at the age of 75.
Lu was predeceased by her parents, Leon and Esther Garza, daughter Tiffany Renee Dwyer, brother Leon Garza Jr. and longtime companion Leonard "Larry" Morrison Duckworth.
Lu is Survived by sister Eugenia (Leo) Zavala, sons James Christopher (Lidia) Dwyer and Michael James (Erika) Dwyer, grandchildren, Victoria, Christian, Josette, Justin, and Guliana, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Born in Sanger, CA, on April 30, 1947, she was the second of three children. Lu Graduated Sanger High School in 1965.
Lu worked as a hair stylist, interior decorator and held positions in TV and Radio. While in Media Lu met the founder of J& L Irrigation Company, Inc. Leonard "Larry" Morrison Duckworth, who later became her longtime companion. Larry passed the business on to Lu, which had been in existence for 26 years as of 2004.
Lu loved a challenge, she thrived on it in the end. With what she had learned from Larry, and then being thrown in to sink or swim when he passed away, she did not sink. She easily could have sold the Corporation, but for Lu that was not to be considered.
Lu had many talents and was creative and artistic. She was a seamstress, designed clothes and an interior decorator and she was very particular with furnishing every room in her home. She planned out the gardens and landscapes at home and the Corporate Offices.
In her spare time Lu enjoyed her hobbies. She enjoyed two Conure birds "Kiwi" and "Rico" she taught them to talk. She loved her cars. Especially the two exotics; 2005 Lamborghini Gallardo which won her 1 st Place at the Pebble Beach Concours d 'Elegance in Lamborghini Division, and her 2008 Pearl White Lamborghini Gallardo Spider Convertible.
Lu both personally and through the Corporation contributed to many organizations in the community which included: FFA, sports groups for many of the outlying schools, Fresno State Bulldog Foundation, Agricultural Department, Public Television, LARC, and The Leukemia Foundation. Lu/ J&L Irrigation also sponsored the Annual J.G. Boswell Water Department Golf Tournament.
Lu always said "The employees are the company; I just make the big decisions. You take care of your employees, and your employees will look after you. J&L Irrigation Company, is not just a business, it is a close-knit family."
Lu has entered those gates in heaven; she was an angel on earth.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and Thank You all for your support and kindness during this devastating time in our lives. She will be greatly missed.
Please send any remembrances to FFA in Lu's memory. Calling hours will be Monday, September 12 from 4-7 pm. Catholic Services will be at Saint Anthony of Padua Church on Tuesday August 13 th at 10 am. Graveside services to follow at Sanger Cemetery.
