Gwenna
Farmer
May 13, 1937 — Jan 30, 2025
Reedley
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Gwenna Beth Farmer, on January 30, 2025 at the age of 87.
Gwen was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to E.C. and Zemmie Cagle in 1937 and moved to Fresno, CA, at age 10. She often recounted her trip to California in the back of a station wagon with her family. Attending Fresno High School, she excelled academically while working at Hardy's Movie Theater, and later working for the phone company after graduation. Her family cherished her stories from her early years.
In 1955, at age 18, Gwen met Bruce Farmer at a local Fresno drive-in. They married in 1956 and settled in Sanger, California. In 1957, they had their first daughter, Tamara (Bill Plemons), followed by a second daughter, Kelly (Scott Mommer), in 1959. Gwen truly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to care for her girls. In 1961, their third daughter, Lisa was born. Gwen always had her girls dressed neatly for church or family events. The family was completed with the birth of their fourth daughter, Sheri (Todd Steele) in 1964.
Gwen and Bruce loved to vacation in Shaver Lake, California and spent many summer weekends with friends at Pine Flat Lake. Cooking and baking came easy for Gwen and she was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and fried chicken.
Gwen provided popcorn and Pepsi for her daughters, neighbor kids, and their friends on the front lawn, which was a popular weekend spot. She was known for being considerate and making everyone feel welcome at their home. Her grandchildren are Eric (Savannah) Plemons and Trent (Anisa) Plemons, Garrett (Madison) Steele, Ryan Steele, Brandon (Alexandrea) Steele & Nicholas (Madison) Steele, Janay Mommer (Matthew), Ashley (Jake) Nulick and Tressa (Christian) Hamett. Great Grandchildren Owen Plemons, Lyla Mommer, Lincoln & Kennedy Nulick, Colette Steele, Olivia Steele, Asher, Sawyer & Zander Hamett. Her bonus children Bonnie Krum, Murray Campbell & Thadd Campbell and her little best friend Barret Thomas.
Gwen was actively involved in the Sequoia Guild for Valley Children's Hospital, the Parent Teacher Association, and Sanger First Baptist Church, as well as other activities Bruce enlisted her in. In later years, she was her grandchildren's biggest fan while attending their sporting events and dance recitals.
Gwen was predeceased in death by her parents EC and Zemmie Cagle, sisters Lawana Faye Brown-Bethell and Billie Gaye Cagle, her beloved husband Bruce Farmer and cherished daughter Lisa Faye Farmer.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Palm Village Retirement Community in Reedley, California for the outstanding care and love they provided to our mother, grandmother and great-mother for the last two years.
Services will be held at Sanger Cemetery on February 6, 2025, at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception at School House Restaurant.
