Harry was born in Bingham Lake, Minnesota on January 11, 1926 to Henry and Agatha Bartsch. At nine years old, his family moved to Dinuba, California to pursue a life of farming. Harry spent his early years growing corn, oats and barley, and milking cows with his family.
