Jose Antonio
"Tony" Quijano
Sep 1, 1945 — Apr 26, 2023
Fresno
Mr. Tony Quijano, a beloved member of the Central Valley community, passed away on Wednesday, April 26th surrounded by his son, Derek Quijano and granddaughter, Adriana Quijano. He was the eldest born on September 1st in Sanger, California, to Mr. Antonio Quijano and Mrs. Francisca Quijano. He grew up in Malaga with his younger brother, Lupe Quijano, and would often help his mom in the fields as a young boy. After attending Fowler High School, he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era to support his family. He was stationed at Naval Air Station Barber's Point, Oahu, Hawaii. His experience in the Hawaiian Islands supported his passionate ideas of inclusion, diversity, and welcoming aloha spirit. After an honorable discharge, he worked as a dedicated UPS driver for 30 years, where he was annually recognized for his exceptional driving skills, as well as his commitment to excellence. He easily made many lifelong friends along his routes and with other drivers.
Although he joined the Navy as a young man, he never stopped educating himself on various local and global topics. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, and was always inspired by history and politics. He was eager to share his knowledge with others and partake in meaningful conversation. Tony had a good habit of remaining connected with family and friends near and far.
In addition to his love of learning, Tony had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He enjoyed family gatherings and vacations, where he could spend quality time with his loved ones. He was an avid supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, and of course Fresno State football, especially when the Bulldogs played against the UH Rainbow Warriors.
He was committed to faith and enjoyed listening to good music, savoring delicious food, and traveling. He enjoyed adventuring in places such as Mexico, Costa Rica, and most frequently, Hawaii. He was always willing to volunteer his time and effort to help those in need, and he was deeply committed to giving back to his community. Tony was a loving father and devoted grandfather. He loved being a grandpa and made great efforts to let his grandchildren know they are loved. He spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren and supported them in every way possible. He was a hardworking man who always made sure his family and friends were well taken care of. He exemplified the true meaning of unconditional love, respect, forgiveness, and what it truly means to help those in need out of the kindness of your heart– without expecting anything in return.
Tony Quijano is survived by his son, Derek, grandchildren– Adriana, DJ, and Ashley. His adopted children, Mark, Erika, and Athena, and grandchildren– Jacquelyn, Matthias, Kai, Keira, Michael, Adrian, and Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Quijano and Francisca Quijano.
Tony Quijano will forever be missed not only by his family but also by those who were impacted by his life. He will always be remembered for his service to others, his colorful laugh, his generosity, and his love for his family and local community. He will be deeply missed by many, and his legacy of service and generosity will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him best.
