Obituary

Joye Dorene Forbes, 89 years old from Piedra, Ca passed away peacefully on Sunday September 15, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Joye was born on March 27, 1935 to Lillian and Nolan Monroe from Porterville, Ca.  Joye attended Kaweah Elementary School for only a few years before moving to Sanger, CA. She then attended Centerville Elementary School, then graduating from Sanger High School in 1953, where she was the head Majorette. While in high school, Joye met her future husband Dan Forbes at a DeMolay Dance. During their courtship of 5 years, Joye was crowned Miss National Guard Queen, and then being crowned Miss Fresno County while she was attending FSC. Later moving on to become second runner up for Miss California. Joye and Dan were married on May 12, 1956. Soon after, Dan was drafted into the Army, where he was stationed in Germany for 2 years. After serving his country, they returned to the states where they started their own cattle business in the Sierra Nevada's located outside of Fresno County, along with starting their own family.

She was a member of the Cattlewomen's Association (Cow Bells), and was awarded Cattlewoman of the year, she was also a member of the Sanger Women's Club. She dedicated her life to the cattle industry riding alongside with her husband Dan. Together they ran a cow/calf operation in the foothills of Central California and in the Sierra Nevada's on their mountain permits. Not only would she handle all the meals for the cowboys, but she also rode alongside everyday gathering cattle throughout the foothills and the high mountains in a crisp white blouse, pink lip stick, painted finger nails, earrings, curled hair, and lemon drops in her pockets for everyone. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her hard work, elegance, class, and kind personality.

Joye was a loving and devoted wife to Dan, and a cherished mother to Kim Blasingame (Curtis) and Shandie Forbes. She was also a beloved grandmother to Cole Blasingame and Cortney Lawrence (Shad), great grandmother to Kayden and Paige Blasingame, Stevie Lawrence, and a sister to her beloved brother Ronald Monroe, and her nephew Jerry Monroe.

A memorial service will be held on October 8, 2024 @ 11:00 Am at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds. In lieu of flowers the family has requested, if you choose to, that donations be made to your favorite charity.
