Keith Koh
Matsumura
Apr 8, 1938 — Nov 4, 2025
Fresno
Mr. Keith Koh Matsumura, 87, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Fresno, California. Keith was born on April 8, 1938, in Fowler, California, and was one of four children of Kiyoo (Kelly) and Yukiye Matsumura.
As a young boy during World War II, Keith and his family were interned in Gila Bend, Arizona, from 1942 to 1945. He remembered the train ride to the camp, where he slept in a hammock, and life in the barracks that housed multiple families in one long building without separate rooms. He often recalled the desert heat and the sound of coyotes at night.
After the war, the family relocated to Sanger, where Keith attended local schools. He was active in sports, playing football and baseball, and running track before graduating from Sanger High School. He later attended Fresno State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
In 1961, Keith was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Chicago, Illinois. It was there he met the love of his life, Darlene Grebeck, who worked as a secretary for the Army. They were married in 1963 and settled in Fresno, California.
Keith began his career as a Laboratory Medical Technician at Sanger Hospital before joining Kaiser Permanente, where he worked for the remainder of his 45-year career. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, he took pride in never missing a single day of work due to illness. He also took pride in being a regular blood donor where he gave over ten gallons of blood.
A devoted husband and father, Keith cherished time with his family. He was a proud and supportive father to his two sons, David and Matthew, often seen at their games and practices—always with a bag of sunflower seeds in hand.
Keith was an avid sports fan, cheering passionately for the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, the Fresno State Bulldogs, and any Super Bowl game. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, especially to their cabin at Shaver Lake, trips to the coast, and national parks. He also found enjoyment in fishing and hunting.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Kiyoo (Kelly) and Yukiye Matsumura; his sister, Emi Matsumura; and his brother, Yutaka (Carl) Matsumura.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Darlene; sons David Matsumura and his wife, Cathi, and Matthew Matsumura and his wife, Duvi; grandchildren Cameron, Danielle, and Matthew; and his sister May and her husband, Sam Fukui.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Kaiser Permanente, the California Armenian Home, and Hinds Hospice for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held on December 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wallin Funeral Home, 1524 9th Street, in Sanger, California.
