Luis Alanis Salazar was born on August 3, 1938 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. He was the son of Jose Maria Alanis Salazar and Cristina Salazar Almaguer. At 19 years old, he came to the United States to work in Seminole, Texas under the Bracero program assisting in constructing dams, and as a farm laborer. He met Eufrocina Herrera and was later married on December 27, 1965. They had 6 children; Luis Martin Alanis Jr., Maria Magdalena Valdovinos, Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, Reverend Deacon David Alanis, Alicia Alanis-Villegas, and Gabriel Alanis. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and surrounded by family. He went by many names throughout his life; El Chaparro, Don Luis, Pops, Tata, but the one he was most proud of was being an Abuelito. He is survived by his brother, sister, 6 children, daughters and sons-in-law, 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
