Lupe Rivera Ríos
june 18, 1933 – January 30, 2026
Lupe Rivera Rios, age 92, passed away early on Friday morning, January 30, 2026, at her long-term board and carehome in Fresno, California. Lupe, the second-born of twin sisters, was born to the parents of Guadalupe and Maria Rivera on a Sunday morning on June 18, 1933, in Fresno, California. She was raised in the small rural Fresno County town of Del Rey, California, alongside six brothers and four sisters.
Lupe attended the Del Rey Elementary School and graduated from Selma High School in Selma, California in 1950. A devout and regular churchgoer of the Primera Iglesia Baptista de Del Rey (Del Rey First Baptist Church), she met her future husband, Daniel Arturo Ríos when he started attending church related activities and weekly services. They were married in 1956 and eventually moved to the El Sereno District of Los Angeles, California, where they would raise a family of a two sons, Daniel Ríos (born in 1957) and Richard Ríos (born in 1959).
Lupe was very active in the school education of her sons and served as an officer of the local PTA and serving as a Noon Aide, also at El Sereno Elementary School. In the summer of 1969, Lupe returned back to rural Fresno County when the family moved to a small family farm between the town of Del Rey and the city of Sanger, CA.
Ever the supportive and hardworking wife, Lupe took on a series of part-time jobs doing farm-related seasonal work and in local fruit packing houses - but also helping her husband, Daniel Arturo with many of the family farm-work duties involved with raisin grape growing and vegetable truck farming (from crop planting, weeding, picking and even tractor driving).
Lupe took joy in being a member of her church and over the years was active in the Women's Group, and eventually serving in more responsible roles, such as being a Church Deaconess and Assistant Treasurer.
Upon the moving out of her sons, to start their own families, Lupe was able to fulfill a long-time wish of hers to get "an office job." She was quietly elated when she passed the intake exam and her job interview and was hired to work for the IRS doing documents/forms mailouts. After years of working as an employee in good standing –Lupe fully retired from outside employment and spent the several years traveling with her also now retired husband enjoying trips to interesting places (including Mazatlán, Mexico; the Holy Land; the island of Martinique; and Hawaii). The family farm was eventually sold and Lupe, with her husband Daniel Arturo, moved to a small apartment in Sanger, CA. where she lived until one year after her husband, Daniel Arturo, passed away in late 2018.
With a steady decline of health, Lupe lived in licensed board and care homes in north Fresno (the most recent and last one since December 2025) and was placed into hospice care for the last months of her life until succumbing to her years long struggles with Alzheimer's Disease.
Lupe enjoyed reading (magazines, books and especially, The Holy Bible), embroidery, cooking, planning and hosting (alongside her twin sister, Carmen Solorio) "themed" Rivera Family Reunions, camping and hiking, visiting and spending time with family, as well as her friends made over her long life, and of course, staying active with her church life (the last being with the Fowler Baptist Church in Fowler, CA).
Lupe Rivera Ríos was preceded in death by her parents; Guadalupe and María; four brothers, Jess, Eulalio, Daniel, and David; three sisters, Lydia, Sara, and her twin Carmen; and her husband, Daniel Arturo. She is survived by two brothers and one sister; her two adult sons; two grandsons; a granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
