Mabel C.
Matsunaga
Sep 21, 1931 — Mar 1, 2024
Clovis
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mabel Chin Matsunaga of Clovis, California, who left us on March 1, 2024 at the age of 92. Born in Fresno, California, to Joe S. Chin and Wong Shee Chin on September 21, 1931, Mabel's journey was one marked by love, hard work, and resilience.
Known to her friends and family as Mae, her early life was spent in Fresno, where she attended Edison High School. Her heart found its match in Benny Koichi Matsunaga, where together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership. They were married on November 24, 1952 and their union was blessed with three sons: Duane, Marty, and Kerry, who were the pride and joy of Mae's life.
Mae and Benny made their home in Sanger, California. They raised their family on a farm where they grew table grapes and tree fruit. Mae worked as a secretary at various trucking and packing companies and also worked on the farm where she left a legacy of three sons who learned the value of hard work and devotion to family.
In her early years, Mae enjoyed bowling and later in life discovered her passion for golfing. She and Benny found joy and friendship at the Kings River Country Club. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling and cooking, but above all, it was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that Mae cherished most.
Mae's life was a testament to her strength, perseverance, and the deep bonds of family. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benny; her parents, Joe S. Chin and Wong Shee Chin; her sister, Helen Ayhte; and her brothers, Henry, Henning, and Hansen Chin. She leaves behind a legacy of love with her three sons and their spouses, Duane (Joan) Marty (Karen) and Kerry (Linda) and her brother Hanfon Chin, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, along with a community of friends who were touched by her kindness, generosity, and fun, spirited nature.
Mae's memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. A service will be held to honor Mae's life and legacy on April 6th at 10:30am at the United Japanese Christian Church located at 136 N Villa Ave, Clovis, Ca. Mabel Chin Matsunaga will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May she rest in peace.
