Obituary

Max Torosian

September 25, 1953 - January 20, 2023
Mr. Max Der Torosian was born in Fresno, California on September 25, 1953, and passed away on January 20, 2023, at his home in Bakersfield surrounded by his family and friends. He was the third child of Ted and Rachel Torosian who grew up on a humble farm in the Sunnyside area in Fresno. Max, like his brothers Atomic and Teddy, were well known in Sanger and Fresno in the sports community for their athletic abilities. Max excelled in football, wrestling, and baseball while a student at Sanger High School and Reedley College.  While living in Fresno, he met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat) Macias whom he married on November 12, 1977, in Bakersfield and started a family. Five years later, on November 19, 1982, they repeated their vows at St Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger.  While working for Young's Market Company, as their top delivery driver from 1977 to 2018, Max received many awards. One of the many was "2016 Delivery Driver of the Year" Also, he was inducted into the Young's Market Company Quarter Century Club.  Max's hobbies were hunting and fishing. Some of his fishing adventures took him to Alaska, and he would come back with a big smile when he caught a salmon to bring home to his family to enjoy. Max enjoyed barbecuing for his family and friends on weekends, and always welcoming them with open arms, and a smile that was contiguous.  Every day he was able to find the small joys of life in simple things such as a walk in the morning while watching the sunrise to dancing with his loving wife.

His greatest passion was his family, his wife Pat of 45 years, his two sons Ryan and Justin, and his grandchildren, Jillian Torosian, Logan Torosian, Jordan Torosian, Jack Kasinger Torosian, Jonah Torosian, Diamond Torosian, Coby Torosian, Brooklyn Torosian, Natalie Torosian and Mason Torosian who were his treasure and his legacy. For Max, he was "papa" to his grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren by taking them to their sports games or the movies or just dropping them off at school. Max was the ideal family man of God, a loving husband, and a caring father.  In February 2018, Max was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. His wonderful Surgeon Dr. Scott Atay and his team created a thought-out plan to fight against the cancer.  Their plan included chemotherapy, radiation, and life-changing surgery. Two weeks after the surgery Max was informed that he was in remission. Later on November 9th, 2022, his cancer returned.

A Catholic Mass for Max Der Torosian will start on February 3, 2023, at 10:00 am at St Mary's Catholic Church on North and Bethel Avenues. Any donations in his name may be contributed to Keck Hospital of USC and Hoffmann Hospice.
