Shizue "May" Mukai passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28th, 2024, in Fresno, at the age of 98 years old. She was born in Redondo Beach, California on May 28th,1925. She was married to Makoto "Coke" Mukai for 55 years until his passing in 2004. She is survived by Children: Gary (Karen) of Fowler, Stanley of Kingsburg, Greg (Gay) of Fowler, Terry (Barbara) of Torrance. Grandchildren: Clinton (Bethany), Mason (Lorraine), Chris (Melanie), Kyle, Allyson and 7 Great-Grandchildren: Zoe, Greyson, & Bobby (Clinton & Bethany), LilyAnn & Marley (Mason & Lorraine), Maya & Reiko (Chris & Melanie) She is survived by sister Kiyoko "Kay" Teraoka of Fresno, sister Masako "Mary" Mukai of Fresno, brother Kazuaki "Henry" Nakatsukasa (wife Fumiko) of Gardena, and sister Suyemi "Sue" Yokomi of Seal Beach. Deceased siblings: Yoshiharu "Frank" Nakatsukasa, Shoso "Tom" Nakatsukasa, & Mitsuye "Mitzie" Weiss.
During World War II the Nakatsukasa family was interned in Poston, Arizona in 1944. May resided in Selma and Fowler, for a majority of her years, where they farmed and raised four boys. Her activities included socializing, leading and taking part with many church groups and organizations, teaching Sunday school, teaching woodworking and electricity for 4-H, card-making, playing mahjong, fishing, watching her sons' and grandsons' sporting events, attending Fresno State athletic events. Traveling around the world with Miyo Honda groups and with other friends and relatives.
