Norman Lee Thompson
January 28, 1945 – June 4, 2026
Norman Lee Thompson passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 81.
Lee was born on January 28, 1945, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Maxine and Everett Thompson. He was the sixth of eleven boys and spent his early years in Oklahoma before his family settled in Exeter, California, where he was raised.
During his time in the Navy, Lee enjoyed telling stories about his travels. He would often laugh as he recalled joining the chaplain's tours whenever his ship was stationed in the Philippines—a story that became part of his legendary collection of Navy tales.
Following his honorable discharge, Lee worked a variety of jobs before beginning his career at Porterville State Hospital as a Psychiatric Technician. Through determination and hard work, he continued his education and became a Registered Nurse. He later moved to Fresno and worked as a surveyor for the Department of Health Services, Licensing and Certification Division. He eventually transferred to Wasco State Prison, where he continued serving others through his nursing career until his retirement.
Lee was a kind, hardworking, and adventurous man who enjoyed making the most of life. Although he initially resisted the many pets his wife brought home over the years, he eventually grew to love and cherish each one. He and his wife shared a passion for travel and enjoyed creating lasting memories together. Among his greatest adventures were fulfilling two lifelong dreams: driving to Alaska and taking a mule ride into the Grand Canyon.
Lee especially treasured time spent with his parents. He loved taking them to Laughlin and found great joy in watching them win and celebrate their successes. He enjoyed a few wins of his own, but the time spent together was what mattered most to him.
Above all, Lee was devoted to his family, proud of his military service, and committed to caring for others throughout his nursing career. His kindness, sense of humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine and Everett Thompson, and his brothers, Vernon Thompson, Max Thompson, and Jerry Thompson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa "Terry" Thompson; his children, Stephanie and Stephen; his four grandsons, his brothers and sisters-in-law; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws; numerous nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
Lee's life was marked by service, compassion, adventure, and love. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
