Pedro F. Cano, "Pete", was born on February 23, 1949, in San Juan, Texas and died in Clovis, CA February 6, 2024. He lived in San Juan, TX until he migrated to Parlier, CA in the mid 1950's. He was drafted to the United States Army in 1969 where he served in the Vietnam War. While serving in the Army, Pete was wounded in combat in 1970 and is a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal of Honor. After being hospitalized for nearly a year in a military hospital in Japan and in San Francisco, he returned to Parlier, CA where he worked as a self-employed truck driver for nearly 10 years. He also co-owned Mohawk Gas Station in Sanger, CA with his two brothers Domingo Cano and Israel Cano Jr.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Lencho Cano, Ruben Cano, Israel Cano Jr. and Domingo Cano and his sisters Gloria Cano Sandoval and Anita Cano Castillo and nephew Greg "Goyito" Cantu. Surviving are his sisters Angie Cano Cantu of Parlier and Oralia Cano Villareal of Texas and brother Heriberto Cano of Parlier. Although Pete never married or had children of his own, he was proud to be a generous and loving uncle to all his nieces, nephews and great nephews and nieces.
Pete had a special love for classic cars and was proud to own a 1934 Model A Ford, a 1967 Chevy C10 Pickup Truck, two 1948 Chevy Fleetmasters, and a 1946 2-door Ford Coupe. Pete enjoyed trips to Cherry Auction, the local casinos and traveled many times to visit family still residing in Texas. In September 2023, escorted by his niece Claudia Garcia, the Central Valley Honor Flight selected Pete to fly to Washington, DC to visit the monuments dedicated to his service to our country as well as the Lincoln Memorial.
