Rachel
Torosian
Jun 3, 1927 — Mar 9, 2026
Fresno
Mrs. Rachel Torosian, age 98, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. She was born on June 3, 1927, in Mt. Signal, California.
Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Toros "Ted" Torosian; her sons, Atomic and Max; her daughter-in-law, Charlene; her son-in-law, Sarkis Soojian; her cherished siblings; her brothers and sisters-in-law; and many dear nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son, Ted (Sandy); her daughters, Arlene Torosian, Tara Soojian, and Christine (George Klistoff); daughter-in-law, Pat Torosian; along with her 11 grandchildren — Lee, Terstzan, Shawntel, Skye, Ryan, Justin, Kyle, Sparkle, Adam, Wyatt, Daniel, and 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of her life.
Rachel's life took a wonderful turn when her athletic talent during a softball game caught the attention of Toros Torosian while they were both working in Arvin, California. During that game, he told his friend, "I am going to marry that girl." He went right up and told her the same thing that day, and she was not too happy about that idea at first. Thankfully, God had a beautiful plan, and they went on to share 61 wonderful years of marriage before Ted passed away in 2010 at the age of 89.
Together they built a life through hard work, raising cattle, farming hay, and growing grapes for raisins. While they worked hard, they also knew how to enjoy life. They loved attending their children's sporting events, fishing, camping, traveling, and dancing together. Their home was always full of family and friends, and Rachel never let anyone leave hungry without a delicious meal. She could spend the entire day working in the field and still appear in the evening looking elegant in a beautiful dress, often one she had made herself.
Rachel lived her life with strength, integrity, and deep faith in God. She sacrificed often for others and believed strongly in doing your best, taking care of yourself, working hard, and always living with character. In public she was very reserved, but at home she enjoyed talk radio and music, playing games, and reading an endless number of books on health, and she carried a joyful spirit every single day of her life.
She had a tremendous love of all sports at every level, especially Fresno State Bulldog games. On every game day, football, baseball, or basketball, she would come out of her bedroom in the morning already dressed in red, ready to cheer her team on.
Rachel loved her family deeply and was loved beyond measure in return. Her strength will live on in the many lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held on March 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sanger Cemetery.
