Attention: Susan Bechara
It was Fresno State football that brought Ray to the valley and his career with the Fresno Police
Dept. that kept him here. It was during his time as a police officer that he received a multitude of awards
and was given the nickname "The Terminator".
Ray was born in Puerto Rico, lived in France for several years and spent most of his childhood growing
up in Monterey, California. He was in a band with his friends during his high school years and played
football. After he finished playing football he began coaching at Fresno City College and that's where he
met his mentor Mr. Keller, who encouraged him to become a Fresno Police Officer. Ray had a deep
passion for both coaching and playing football and it is this passion that was demonstrated by him playing
in the Pig Bowl until he was 50 yrs old.
A few years after joining the Police Dept. Ray met his wife Pauline, they had two children Ramon and
Veronica and were married for 38 yrs.
Ray continued his passion by coaching his son's Sanger Freshman Football Team as well as coaching the
Sanger frosh/sophomore girl's basketball team with his wife Pauline. He also taught gang classes to new
recruits at the Fresno Police Academy for many years as well as mentoring and counseling at risk youth
with his long time friend Susan Bechara. Some of Ray's other hobbies included playing drums at Sacred
Heart Church, exercising, dancing with his wife and spending time with his dogs.
If you ask those that knew him, most would say what they remember most about Ray is his sense of
humor, outgoing demeanor and his deep desire to help and serve others and keep them from any
unnecessary suffering or pain.
Ray is survived by his wife Pauline, son Ramon, daughter Veronica and sister Belen.
