Obituary

Richard Dexter Binns was born May 8th ,1940 in Salinas CA. to Charles and Alice Binns. He passed away January 3rd, 2025. Raised in Salinas, Ca., he graduated from Salinas High School in 1958. He then moved on to Cal Poly SLO and graduated in 1963 with his degree in farming. After college he enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey. After his discharge from the Army, he started his career farming for D'Arrigo Brothers. Soon after, he was introduced by mutual friends to his future wife, Rosie Martinez. They would go on to wed in 1967 in Imperial Valley. In 1970 their first daughter, Christina would arrive. Not long after, their second daughter, Victoria would arrive. In 1972 they would leave Imperial Valley for Reedley, where Richard would head up the grape and tree fruit operation and raise his family. Daily life consisted of work, his family, and being a cowboy. If he wasn't working or at his girls' events, he was working on his ranch. Raising and tending to his animals and crops. Richard was a devoted family man. He was always there for all the activities and sports events. He sacrificed his time, money and energy to make sure his girls had everything they needed. With his daughters raised, his next chapter included the births of his grandchildren. With every grandchild his heart grew and became softer. And the cycle repeated, going to every event, or sport, to cheer and support his grandchildren. Dad "Papa", you are deeply missed. But we take with us the love, values, and memories you gave us.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rosie in 2019. He is survived by his daughter Christina, her husband Jim Gagnon and their children Jacob, Will, and Ashlyn of Reedley, CA. Daughter Victoria, her husband James Griffin and their son Andrew of Fresno, CA.
