Richard Olivarez passed away on January 6, 2023 with his family by his bedside. Richard was born in Sanger, California on January 25, 1942. He was one of eight children born to Blas and Frances Olivarez. Richard was raised in Sanger and graduated from Sanger High School in the class of 1960. Richard married Rosemary De La Paz on December 2, 1972. Richard and Rosemary raised three children and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
After graduating high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Army where he served two years and then was honorably discharged. After completing his service, Richard had a long career with the County of Fresno. In addition to his career, Richard spent his free time coaching Little League baseball in Sanger. Richard, also known as "Richie Rich" was friendly to all, often seen in the morning at Sanger McDonalds for breakfast with his many friends. More than anything, Richard or 'Pa' enjoyed doting on his grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Shaun M. Olivarez and his brother Martin Olivarez. Richard is survived by his wife Rosemary, son Phillip Olivarez and his wife Kristi of Sanger, daughter Jennifer Oneto and her husband Jason of Clovis, and 9 grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his brother Frank Olivarez, sister Lupe Cordova, sister Isabel 'Nena" Gomez, brother Johnny Olivarez and his wife Virginia, sister Terri Gutierrez, and brother Michael Olivarez.
Visitation will be Monday January 16 from 4pm - 6pm at Wallins Funeral Home (1524 Ninth St. Sanger, CA 93657) and immediately following a Rosary will be held at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 17 at 10 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger, California, followed by a graveside service at Sanger District Cemetery.
