Richard J.
Torres
Jun 6, 1982 — Dec 23, 2022
Fresno
Richard Joe Torres, Jr., was born on June 6, 1982. He was affectionately known as "Papitas" or "Pops" to his family. He was the son of Lisa Torres and Richard Torres, Sr., and was the elder brother of Robert Torres and Connie Torres Martinez. He departed this earthly life on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the age of 40.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ernie and Edwina Avalos; his paternal grandparents Frank and Augustina Torres, and his childhood best friend Kurt "Kurtie" Colwell. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 12 years, Corina Torres. He leaves behind his beloved Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law, Anthony (Tony) and Cindy Maldonado, his brothers-in-law, Anthony and Michael Maldonado, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Richard was born and raised in Sanger, California. He attended Jefferson Elementary School, Washington Academic Middle School, and Sanger High School. At the age of 23, he began working for Save Mart Grocery Store. He grew up playing soccer and was an avid soccer fan. He was also a devoted Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia Eagles Fan.
Richard was full of light and had the biggest heart. He lived and loved well. He spread the love of God not only in word, but also in deed. He had a special way of letting you know how special you were to him.
His family was so important to him. He knew that he could count on his mom for anything and everything. He enjoyed all the time he got to spend with his dad. He loved every moment that he was able to share with his siblings, nieces, and nephews.
He never had children, yet he built a family. He was the glue that held his friends together. He showed us how to show up for friends, family, and life. Richard will forever be missed. We will never understand why God called him home so soon, but we are comforted to know that Richard lived his life with nothing unsaid and nothing undone. May we live and love like Richard.
