"Those who have lived wisely and well will shine brilliantly,
like the cloudless, star-strewn night skies.
And those who put others on
the right path to life will glow like stars forever."
Daniel 12:3 MSG
On the afternoon of December 26th, 2024, Robert Steven Alexander passed away just days before his 73rd birthday after a brutal battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Rob was deeply loved and surrounded by family.
Born on January 5th, 1952 to Bob and Millie Alexander, he was a loving older brother to Timothy(Johanna) and Janet (Rick). Graduating from West Point Military Academy in 1974, he went on to receive both his Masters and PhD at Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. He had a long and exemplary career with the United States Army. Among the honors he received include the hard-earned Ranger Tab, as well as the Parachutist Badge, the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal (2), Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
After retirement from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, Rob moved into the private sector with SAIC and eventually, into academia at Montgomery College, in MD. Rob led an active life of ministry for Jesus Christ and loved his time spent with Officer Christian Fellowship and Community Bible Study, together with local churches wherever the military sent him. His children were his pride and joy and he was a phenomenal father - supportive, loving, and so very proud of the adults they've become.
Rob will be remembered as a brilliant mathematician, a talented violinist and guitarist, a big-hearted professor, a computer and miniature wargaming enthusiast, a student of military history, an avid motorcyclist, and a leader who lived a life of service to others. Most importantly, he was a generous, selfless, and loving husband, father, brother, godfather, uncle, friend, neighbor, and brother-in-Christ. Rob is survived by his wife, Cynthia, and his three children, Meredith, Timothy, and Jonathan.
