Obituary

Robert "Bob" Newton Hines, born to Archie and Beatrice Hines on February 20, 1930, in Coalinga, CA, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and respected member of his community.

A man of faith, Robert found solace and guidance in Micah 6:8, "No, the Lord has told us what is good.  What he requires of us is this: to do what is just, to show constant love, and to live in humble fellowship with our God."

Raised in Coalinga, he moved with his family to Clovis in 1941, where his father transitioned from owning a gas station to farming row crops and raising beef cattle. Robert graduated from Clovis High School and attended Fresno State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy.

Following graduation, Robert married the love of his life Joan Forbes on July 20, 1954, and they were blessed with two children, Beth and David.

Throughout his life, Robert achieved numerous milestones, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. From his humble beginnings in Coalinga to his service in the military and his successful career in agriculture, working at the USDA Cotton Research Station and managing the Clovis – Sanger Cooperative Cotton Gin, Robert's journey was marked by dedication and integrity. As the manager of Central California Almond Growers Association, he left a legacy of progress and innovation in the agricultural community.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Robert found joy in simple pleasures, including hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his cherished family.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Beatrice Hines, as well as his siblings, Bill and Betty. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Joan Hines, their children, Beth (Mark) Heuer and David (Dianna) Hines, five grandchildren, Joanie (Scott) Riddle, Katie (Johnny) Verwey, Bob (Ali) Hines, Megan (Kevin) McDannald, and Hannah (Matt) Lindsay, and 19 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

Robert's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 10:00 am at Sanger Community Church, located at 1610 Jensen Ave. Sanger, CA 93657.
