Obituary

Mr. Ruben Marquez, 69, was called home to the lord Sunday, February 19, 2023 in Fresno, California in the comfort of his own home surrounded by family and friends.

Ruben was born June 27, 1953 in Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Victorino and Agustina Marquez. Ruben moved to Watsonville, California in 1974 and worked at Pillsbury Green Giant for 15 years.

In November 1975 in Salinas, California at a dance Ruben met and fell in love with his wife Becky Lira. Marriage and children were soon to follow. Ruben and Becky were married on December 3, 1977 in Watsonville, California.

First child born to Ruben and Becky was in June of 1979 and was named Ruben Rene Marquez. Second child born was in October of 1982 and was another precious baby boy and he was named Victor Louis Marquez. Third child was you guessed it, another beautiful baby boy who was born June of 1984 and was named Daniel Christopher Marquez. Ruben and Becky's fourth and final child was born January of 1987 and was a baby girl who was named Darlene Rosanna Marquez.

Ruben and family lived in Watsonville, California until 1990, that's when they moved to Fresno, California and that is where Ruben spent the rest of his days. He was a truck driver for 20 years. He retired in 2016 at the age of 63, because of knee surgery.

Ruben's most important responsibility was to provide for his family and to make sure his children had the opportunities to succeed in life. He wanted to absolute best for his children and  was a very proud family man.

Ruben was a man of faith. Rain or shine he was at church every Sunday. He taught his children the importance of faith and to always trust in God's plan.

When Ruben welcomed someone to his home, he would embrace you and make you feel at home and would love to cook for his loved ones. Some of his famous and extremely delicious dishes included: mole, menudo, salsa, tamales, pozole, cocido (beef soup) and corn on the cob. When you became Ruben's friend it was for life. He would drop what he was doing to help a loved one, no questions asked.

Ruben had the best sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. If you were having a rough day you could count on him for a good laugh. He held onto his humor throughout his illness, still making those around him laugh and smile. He had the most beautiful smile and laughter that could brighten up a room.

Along with a great sense of humor, Ruben had a green thumb. He was an excellent gardner and loved to be outside tending to his plants. He was very proud of his work, everyone that came to visit Ruben would come and admire his garden, and more often then not you would be leaving with one of his creations.

Ruben was very proud to be a husband and father and loved his family more than anything in this world, but the day he became a grandpa was the happiest day of his life. Ruben had six grandchildren who he adored more than anything in the world. He loved being a grandpa and he loved spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren. He always had either a child on his lap or in his arms embraced in a big hug.

Anytime anyone had an issue whether it be with your car, home appliance, plumbing, or yard work he would always lend a helping hand. He was such a selfless man and always wanted to help any way he could. He taught his children the meaning of loyalty, respect and to help those in need out of the kindness of your heart without expecting anything in return.

Ruben Marquez was one of a kind and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. I wish everyone could've met Ruben and had the opportunity to experience his kindness, his love, his loyalty, his smile, his laughter and his love of life. Ruben is survived by his beautiful wife Becky Marquez and his four children: Ruben Rene Marquez, Victor Louis Marquez, Daniel Christopher Marquez, and Darlene Rosanna Aguayo, and his six grandchildren: Luke, Kalei, Danica, Leia, Dominic and Laila Marquez.
