Ruby R.
Topoozian
d. Sep 8, 2023
Ruby Tateosian was born on July 25, 1933, in Reedley, CA, the third child of John and Rebecca Tateosian. She and her older siblings, Charles and Virginia initially grew up in Reedley. When Ruby was 8, the family moved to the farm in Selma, where Ruby would live out the rest of her life. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, attending school, helping at home, and later attending Reedley College.
As a young woman, Ruby was involved in Job's Daughters, and was elected to the position of Honored Queen. Following graduation, Ruby started her career working in the legal profession, ultimately becoming a legal secretary. She initially worked in a private law firm and worked for prominent lawyer Ralph Moradian, who became the first appointed judge in California of Armenian descent. She later enjoyed a 26 year career in the Fresno City Attorney's office, ultimately in the position of Law Office Administrator.
Ruby pursued her passions of shopping and traveling. Trips to visit her brother's family in San Francisco always provided a great excuse to go shopping downtown. Trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Brazil, England, Russia & Armenia took her sightseeing around the world. Ruby also had a love for her dogs including Blackie, Ginger, Princess, Lucky, and most recently Lucky II.
Ruby was very active in the local Armenian community including the Daughters of Vartan, an Armenian fraternal organization, AGBU, and St. Gregory's Armenian Apostolic Church in Fowler, California. She was a fixture at the Western Diocese Church Camp. Ruby and her close friend Anita Kazanjian were the driving force behind the daily camp newsletter, The Hye Life, for many years. They also ran Ruby-Ann's Bake Shop out of their office, stocked with a fabulous selection of fresh baked cookies they brought to camp, delighting staff and campers alike.
At St. Gregory, Ruby was active in the Ladies Society, teaching in the Sunday School, and singing in the Choir. Little did she know she would be singing alongside the man who would become the love of her life, Joe Topoozian.
Joe and Ruby were married on October 14, 2000, at St Gregory in Fowler, California. Upon marrying Joe, Ruby went from being in the small Tateosian family to inheriting Joe's large extended Topoozian family, which she happily and lovingly embraced.
Marrying Joe introduced Ruby to long drives across the country by car and RV, seeing sights across the United States, including many visits to Branson, MO. She also loved traveling to visit family and friends. Ruby continued her passion for shopping after marriage, with Joe having sat on almost every bench at malls across the United States, waiting for her to finish her latest treasure hunt!
Ruby was a fantastic cook–with a specialty in baking–and loved to entertain and feed family, friends, and co-workers. She took great joy in always extending gracious hospitality to all visitors.
Ruby passed away peacefully at her lifelong home, just as she wished, in the early morning hours of September 8, 2023. Family and friends surrounded Ruby and Joe with love and her passing leaves many heartbroken. She will be dearly missed.
Ruby was pre-deceased by her parents John and Rebecca, her sister Virginia, her brother Charles and his wife Mary, who quickly moved from sister-in-law to another beloved sister.
Ruby is survived by her husband Joe Topoozian, her surviving nephews Richard Ahronian (Joan), David Tateosian (Mae), Mark Topoozian (Mary Lynn), Robbie Topoozian (Angel), Tom Topoozian (Lydia), and her surviving nieces Janyce Babigian (Alex), Renee Missakian (John), Christine Sahatdjian (Billy), Karen Sahakian (Michael), Nancy Topoozian, Cathy Tateosian & Lisa Tateosian.
The Tateosian and Topoozian families express their deepest appreciation to the warm and loving caregivers who Ruby & Joe treasured, including Linda Angeles, Gabriella Campos, Josefina Campos, Lucy Haro, Mary Hull, Maleeyah Khann, Jane Ortiz, Irene Valdez as well as Precious King – a longtime friend and carer of the Tateosian family for over 50 years. Your gifts are immeasurable.
