Timothy James
Sherman
Mar 22, 1950 — Oct 18, 2025
Sanger
Timothy James Sherman (Tim), 75, of Fresno, California, passed away on October 18, 2025, after a ten-year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Tim was born on March 22, 1950, in Long Beach, California, to Roger and June Sherman. He grew up with his sister, Kay, and brothers, Mike and Tom. He also had a baby sister, Ruth Ann, who lived only a few days but remained an important part of his heart throughout his life.
He attended Catholic primary and secondary school while growing up in San Luis Obispo. Later, Tim spent much of his time exploring and adventuring in his young adult years, working as a youth summer camp counselor and on a large agricultural farm.
After wandering through his adventurous hippie years, he graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. He then earned his postgraduate K–8 teaching credential. He was deeply involved in the EST Training and Landmark community, where he met his wife Candace. During this time, he was set to travel abroad to teach English in Japan. Tim was set to leave but they did not want to separate so they married and traveled to Japan together. They lived there for a number of years before returning to the U.S. Not long after, they welcomed their first child, Jeremy, and eight years later, Kathryn. Tim taught for over 31 years in the Fresno Unified School District, teaching children from 2nd through 6th grade.
As a father and husband, Tim was patient, loyal, devoted, and deeply proud of his children. He was always so impressed by who his children became through their artistic pursuits and life adventures.
Tim loved spending time outside in his garden cultivating the most beautifully scented roses. A ravenous sports fan and athlete, Tim played primarily baseball and basketball in his youth, and in later years played in the senior men's softball leagues around Fresno. Some of his favorite memories were attending games with his son, Jeremy, cheering on the Fresno State Bulldogs, the San Francisco Giants, and the 49ers every season.
He had a passion for empowering and supporting others to be their best selves. He started a community project to help battered women and their children at the Marjaree Mason Center experience a night of fun through watching a baseball game at the Fresno Grizzlies.
He will be remembered for his quiet, samurai-like strength amidst the chaos, his big laugh, his jokes, his poetry, and his brilliant musical mind. He shared his love of music and the piano with his wife, Candace, often writing and composing his own pieces.
Tim is survived by his wife Candace. His daughter Kathryn, son Jeremy and spouse Karla and two beloved grandchildren, Sebastian and Amelie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Ann, and his eldest brother Mike.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Belmont Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of life at the Fresno Bahá'í Center at 11:00 a.m.
"May God lift him up to the highest Heaven, to the fellowship of glory."
