Victor Fugio Kondo passed away on June 1, 2023 in Sanger at the age of 88. He was born August 16, 1934 in Fresno to Roy and Kazuyo Kondo.  He was the eldest of four children.

Victor was a student in Sanger schools, graduating from Sanger High School in 1953. He continued his education at the University of California Davis, earning his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. While at Davis he met his future bride, Riena Weidman.

In 1962 Victor began his 60-year journey of faithfully serving God as a linguist in Colombia, South America. He and Riena started work with Wycliffe Bible Translators and learned the language of the indigenous Guahibo group. They were able to speak, write and then teach children to read in their own language.  With a team of linguists and native language helpers, they translated the Old Testament and the New Testament for the Guahibo people and later for the Guayabero group so they could read God's word. Riena died in 2011, but Victor continued their work to help all those whom he met. He is described as faithful, kind, generous and hardworking.  Victor did not return to the United States until October 2022 when his failing health forced him to leave Colombia. He was associated with Wycliffe Bible Translators, International Outreach Ministries and New Tribes Mission.

Victor was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Kazuyo Kondo, wife Riena Kondo and brother Barry Kondo.  He is survived by brother Harvey Kondo and wife Julie, sister Jane Okada and husband Danny, sister–in-law Karen Kondo, sister-in-law Patricia Weidman, and a niece and 3 nephews. He is missed by his many friends in Colombia as well as his Wycliffe family both In Colombia and here in the States.

The immediate family will have a private memorial service.  Remembrances may be sent to:
