Obituary

Mr. Willie James Young, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 73, after a short but courageous battle with an (illness) cancer.

Willie was born on January 30, 1953, in Fresno, California, to the late Alfred and Elnora Young. Willie was a graduate of Riverdale High School and a lifelong resident of Riverdale. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, a quality that would define his life. Following in the footsteps of those before him, Willie dedicated more than 50 years to farm labor, working faithfully at Rau's Dairy and later at McCann & Son's before retiring. He took great pride in honest work and enjoyed spending countless hours working on various farm equipment, raking and baling hay, finding satisfaction in every task he completed.

After retiring, Willie embraced a quieter life at home with his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 50 years, Dora. A man of simple pleasures, he was happiest relaxing in his favorite recliner with an ice-cold drink while cheering on his beloved San Francisco Giants. He also found great joy in tending his summer garden, where he grew tomatoes, peppers, onions, collard greens, and other vegetables that he generously shared with family, friends, and neighbors. His lawn was always green, neatly mowed, and welcoming—a reflection of the pride he took in caring for his home.

Willie was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Tsihisna "Tee" Young; his parents, Alfred and Elnora Young; his sister, Annie B. Young; and his brother, Wardell Young. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Dora Lee Young; his loving daughter, Dr. Trisha A. Young; his brothers, Cardell (Deloris) Young, Vernal Young, Johnnie (Michelle)Young, and Alfred Young Jr.; sister, Nellie Young; brothers-in-love, Chester and Ray Roberts; sister in love Hattie Mae (Dan) Whaley, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

When Willie was diagnosed (with cancer), he faced it with remarkable courage and determination, treasuring every moment with his wife, Dora, and his daughter, Trisha. His quiet strength and resilience carried him through each challenge and inspired all who knew him. Willie will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. Though stoic by nature and not one to express his emotions in many words, those fortunate enough to know him never doubted how deeply they were loved and appreciated, especially in his later years. His legacy lives on through the example he set, the lives he touched, and the family he loved so faithfully. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
