In The Beginning

Serving our families with integrity and compassion since 1964.
Sirviendo a nuestras familias con integridad y compasión desde 1964.

Mr. And Mrs. William D Creager came to Sanger in 1941 and purchased a half interest in the J.R. Cain Funeral Home which, at the time, was located on 8th Street. The business continued under the name “Cain & Creager Funeral Home” until August of 1946 when the Creager family purchased Mr. Cain’s interest in the firm and took full ownership.

Sadly, Mr. Creager died the following month but his son, Jay Creager, took over the daily operations and continued his father’s dream of keeping the funeral home locally owned and operated. In 1948, construction was completed at the funeral home’s present location on 1524 9th St.

Five years later, in October of 1953, Charles O. Wallin was hired as manager. Mr. Wallin had graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and shared the Creager’s vision to serve local families with respect and dignity in their time of loss. Just 11 years later, Mr. Wallin purchased the firm and changed the name to Wallin & Sons Funeral Home. Over the next 30 years, Charles was actively involved in the California Funeral Directors Association and was elected CFDA President in 1971. Mr. Wallin was also very active in city government and was the mayor of Sanger from 1958 - 1968.

At the age of 65, Charles O. Wallin retired, and his son, Charles M. Wallin, became the new owner. Like his father before him, Mr. Wallin was eager to serve his community.

Even today, Mr. Wallin remains active in the Sanger Rotary Club. as also been honored by the California Funeral Director’s Association for his service in the industry. Under his leadership, Wallin Funeral Home has grown to include locations in Sanger, Parlier, Fowler, and Riverdale. Today, Mr. Wallin is still a fixture at our Sanger location, still manages the books, and offers wisdom that comes from decades of experience.

Just like William Creager, Charles O. Wallin, and Charles M. Wallin, we believe that staying locally-owned is best for the families who put their trust in us. Wallin Funeral Homes…local people serving local families with care and compassion.
